2018 SJ Rock ‘n’ Roll
This year, the whole family ran and it was a weekend event! Thing 3 ran the Kids Rock (1/2 a mile); Thing 2 ran the 5K (too young to register for the 10K) with Tom; Thing 1 ran the 10K; and Tom and I ran the half marathon. Both big kids got some shiny, new… Read more

2018 Santa Cruz Half
This event completely fell off my radar until the very last minute and, while I started 2018 off with a strong start to running, at least 3 weeks of illness and oodles of recent stress kind of derailed training. In terms of the mileage goal, I’m tracking about 13 miles behind where I should be.… Read more

2017 Santa Cruz Half-Marathon
So, they changed the course this year! I was much slower than I was last year–I could feel it! Yet, my official race results show that I was running an 8:10 pace. My GPS watch shows I was running more like an 8:29 (which seems more accurate!). I wasn’t expecting a PR this year anyway.… Read more

She.is.Beautiful 10K with Thing 2
Thing 2 completed her first 10K at this year’s She.is.Beautiful! And, she was amazing. Maybe around Mile 3, she told me she had a blister and a side stitch, but she carried on in really good spirits. She was a champ! Around mile 4.5, I could tell she was flagging…and she still made comments on… Read more

Surfer’s Path 10K – 2/26/2017
It was a very cold morning and I missed matching my previous 10K PR by 8 secs/mile. It’s hard to believe I actually ran this course at a 7:44 pace 2 years ago and placed second in my age group. This was definitely a fast group and it seems I really am slowing down! I… Read more

2016 San Jose Rock ‘n’ Roll, October 2nd
Signed up for the SJ Rock ‘n’ Roll pretty late because it is always a challenge thinking about child care. But this year, they offered kids’ races, so the girls ran the Kids Rock (poor Thing 2 really wanted to run the 5 or 10K, but she didn’t meet the minimum age requirement!) and Thing… Read more

2016 Surfer’s Path Marathon – May 22nd
The last time I ran this event (last year), I struggled enough that I told myself it was my last marathon. But I ended up signing up for the She.is.Beautiful 1K Club (Goal: run 1000 miles in 2016) and I figured the best way to guarantee that I would hit 1K miles this year would… Read more

2016 See Jane Run Half-Marathon – June 5th
The last big run was See Jane Run. I came for the non-existent burritos the day after Thing 1 broke his arm just after his dance performance ended. We got to the hotel late (around 11pm), after having spent about 3 hours at Urgent Care getting x-rays, consultation and, finally, a temporary splint for Thing… Read more

Santa Cruz Half-Marathon – 4/10/2016
Since I’m in the middle of a training cycle for the Surfer’s Path Marathon next month, I took it easy in the SC Half. I decided to ignore my watch and just ran “by feel.” I didn’t get a PR — my pace was 4 seconds slower per mile than my previous PR (at last… Read more

A Very Rainy Go Green Half-Marathon – 03/13/2016
What a wet run! It rained the entire time. It was either pouring down rain or sprinkling, but there was never a break! We all got especially wet because the start time was delayed by 10 minutes while they re-routed part of the course. And, around mile 11-ish, we encountered the mess–the path was flooded,… Read more
