Signed up for the SJ Rock ‘n’ Roll pretty late because it is always a challenge thinking about child care. But this year, they offered kids’ races, so the girls ran the Kids Rock (poor Thing 2 really wanted to run the 5 or 10K, but she didn’t meet the minimum age requirement!) and Thing 1 signed up for the 10K with the hubby. I opted in for the half-marathon.
Given the late sign-up, I had only 4 weeks to ramp back up to 13 miles, so the distance runs over the weekends preceding the event went like this: 6 miles, 8 miles, 10 miles, and 11 miles.
I really didn’t do any speed training or intervals either. So, I wasn’t expecting fast, just something under 1:50.
Overall, I did much better than I expected, but no PR. At some point, I realized a PR was within striking distance, but even though I tried hard to step it up a little, my leg turn-over rate was just too slow (maybe aging, maybe lack of speed workouts, maybe lack of higher weekday mileages, maybe all of the above!)!
It was a good run, nonetheless. I wasn’t expecting to be anywhere near able to PR, so I’m good with the results. Also, so happy Thing 1 had a great time. I’m so proud of that guy for hanging in there with good attitude! The girls were also very happy with their race bling (which was pretty nice for a kids’ run!) and Thing 2 came in from her breezy 1-miler about 2-3 minutes sooner than I expected!
My final stats:

Gender: 171/3705 (4.6%)
Overall: 885/7673 (11.5%)
