The Surfer’s Path 10K was eons ago now (way back in November) and, at this point, the details are hazy. But, I did get new 10K PR. Official stats are as follows:
Overall: 30 of 464 (6.4%)
Gender: 7 of 323 (2.2%)
Age Group/Division (40-49): 2 of 92 (2.2%)
Start Time: 08:00:08
Elapsed: 00:47:59
Pace: 7:44
I never did stick around to see what I got for coming in 2nd in my age group, but coming in 2nd and 7th overall (gender) is prize enough in itself.
I was more disappointed with the results of the Avenger’s Half even though my results are statistically “better.” The race was on Tom’s birthday and I wanted to do better than I did last year (where I placed 4th in my age group)…. the only reason I registered was to improve (we’d otherwise would have celebrated Tom’s bday differently!). I came up empty-handed: I didn’t get a PR and I didn’t even manage to place in the top 5 in my division! Results are as follows:
Overall: 317/10763 (2.9%)
Division (45-49): 6/526 (1.1%)
Gender: 67/6330 (1.1%)
5K Split: 25:03
10K Split: 50:42
15K Split: 1:16:20
Elapsed: 1:56:24
The weather was perfect. When I started the run (from Corral B as I seemed to have forgotten to submit previous race results before the event which would have gotten me a spot in Corral A), I remember thinking that it would be tough to do well since the weather would be good for everyone (whereas last year, I feel that my sheer persistence to continue moving through that severe wind really helped me–I saw many other runners who gave up the fight against the wind and just walked). This was also the 2nd year of this race so more experienced runners probably got wind of it and signed up. In any event, this is the last of the Disney running events I’m planning on running for a good, long time. I do wish I had done better as there will not be a “next time” for quite a while!
