This year, the whole family ran and it was a weekend event! Thing 3 ran the Kids Rock (1/2 a mile); Thing 2 ran the 5K (too young to register for the 10K) with Tom; Thing 1 ran the 10K; and Tom and I ran the half marathon. Both big kids got some shiny, new PR’s!

First up, was Cameron (with Tom accompanying her). Her event started at 7:30am, so she and Tom left the hotel room around 7am. The other 2 kids woke up while they were getting ready, so I decided we should go hunt around for some brekky snacks.

Dylan was telling me we should just get to the finish line…and he turned out to be so right! I had set up the Rock ‘n’ Roll Runner Tracker app so we could watch Thing 2’s progress and get to the finish line in time to cheer her on. But, we stopped for coffee and a nibble first. While I was getting sugar for my coffee, I asked Dylan to check the app. When we looked at it, her marker was already at the finish and there was a message indicating tracking had ended!

At first I thought it was a mistake, but we started hustling out anyway. While I was checking the app again, we saw Tom and C. heading towards the merchandise tent…done indeed! She finished in 29:59!

Next up was the Niblet. Poor thing was off to such a strong start, but a little past the half-way point, she fell down and skinned her knee! Still, she finished, and she is eager for the next event (Wonder Woman!)!

Then, Dylan, Tom and I ran the following day while my mom watched the girls back at the hotel. Dylan and Tom started out together and only had to part ways at the 10K turnaround (around 5 miles in)!

Dylan claims the vast majority of the conversation was about Tom calculating their pace (~11min/mile). After they split ways, though, Dylan accelerated as he felt like he still had tons of energy.

In the end, he finished in 1:08:17, a whopping 25 minutes faster than his Wharf-to-Wharf time and 19 minutes faster than his 2017 Wharf-to-Wharf results!

As for me, I trained up to only 8 miles as we’d lost track of this event entirely. We didn’t get any reminder emails and it had only been added to Tom’s calendar, not the family calendar.

But, three cheers for consistency; even though I hadn’t done more than 8 miles in training, I did run pretty much every other day. I did not get a PR and I slowed yet another 2 minutes from my previous SJRNR results, but I made it and managed to average an 8:31 pace (down 10 seconds/mile from last year!). Surprisingly, I finished 20th in my division. I’ll take it! Here are the medals for the year and the stats:
