Here are this year’s SJ Rock ‘n’ Roll Stats:

Overall: 1192/8276 (14.4%)
Division (half marathon, age group): 25/534 (4.6%)
Gender: 251/4020 (6.2%)
5K Split: 25:49
10K Split: 51:50
15K Split: 1:18:30
10mi : 1:24:43
Pace: 8:31
Chip Time: 1:51:31
Clock Time: 1:54:59

Overall, I did better than I did at this event last year (1:54:43) but I missed a new PR by about 5 minutes, a whopping 25 seconds per mile slower than I ran in the SC Half!

I knew I wasn’t getting any PRs this time around, though. I pretty much avoided checking my splits during the entire race and just enjoyed the run. Since it was relatively warm, I also paused to take a sip of water at pretty much every aid station.

The main highlights included passing the start line just as the last corral, Corral 20(!), was about to cross the start line! Also, at about my mile 6, the first male finishers were already on their last mile or so and I saw Meb Keflezighi in second, neck in neck with the number one guy. I later found out Meb did indeed finish second…but at 40, it is inevitable that someone much younger — a 26-year old — would finally beat him out! It was impressive that he lost by only 2 seconds! I never did see the first female finishers as I was off the return course by the time they passed.

Overall, I’m satisfied with my results. My finish time falls in line with previous PR’s. I didn’t do much speed training at all during this cycle, and training runs with J. and her pup have been slower and shorter….I’m very happy my legs can still carry me!
